About Deputy
Deputy is a cloud-based workforce management platform founded in 2008 to address scheduling and compliance challenges its co-founder faced in his own aviation business. The company developed automated tools for staff scheduling, time tracking, and labor cost management. Headquartered in Australia and the United States, Deputy now serves thousands of workplaces across retail, hospitality, healthcare, and more. Key features like mobile clock-in/out, leave management, and payroll integration help reduce administrative burdens and provide real-time insights, making Deputy a leader in modern workforce management.
Deputy and Superblocks
As Deputy grew its customer base and service offerings, its old internal operational tooling quickly became a bottleneck for providing a great customer experience – becoming a source of endless tech debt, being bottlenecked by senior engineering time, and providing subpar capabilities to the internal teams that relied on it for their productivity. To resolve this, they began looking into low-code platforms to replace their existing tooling with a solution that was easier to maintain and overall less engineering-intensive.
They selected Superblocks for its alignment with their key requirements and standout features over comparable solutions. Notably, it offered essential integrations with Deputy’s core DevOps systems—Datadog, JIRA, and LaunchDarkly—a straightforward cloud deployment inside it’s controlled virtual private cloud, Python support, and the ability to embed Superblocks iFrames into existing applications, while being deployed through it’s Okta provisioning.
Unlocking developer productivity and internal tools
Key internal tools that Superblocks + Deputy have achieved in under a year include:
- Overhauling and upgrading support tooling to provide modern, flexible experiences across more than 20 support workflows.
- Developing self-service tools for finance and legal teams to streamline operations and reduce the burden on engineers.
- Enhancing developer productivity by creating new applications and workflows for Platform Engineering.
Overall, Deputy’s goal is to boost efficiency across the organization and lower operating costs, while creating powerful and productive tools to make internal staff more productive by building easy-to-maintain tooling that significantly reduces the time senior engineers spend fixing core workflows, triaging ad-hoc tasks, and manually performing operations that could be automated.
Deputy’s been a great partner – and we’re excited to keep working with them as we grow the platform!
